Adoption fees are available upon request. They vary depending on the age, ability and soundness of the horse and range from zero to $1,500.

Jazz

UPDATE: Jazzy's back under the saddle and loving life. She's really coming along and is ready to be finished how ever you'd like. We've found that she won't tolerate a bit and has been ridden English with a bitless bridle in the past. We now have her going in a hackamore and she's doing great. Although she is definitely gaited for English riding, we have been working with her in Western tack. As her confidence builds she's getting much better with transitions and tempo. She's even slowing down a bit to enjoy the scenery. It's all coming back to her now… This lovely mare aims to please and is so willing. She's still very sensitive but it's starting to be in a good way.

Jazz is a 10 yr. old "Araby" Standardbred mix. She's dark chestnut and about 15.3H. She was originally rescued by EPONA and was transferred to us last March upon their closing. She was placed into foster care and has returned to find her forever home. This lovely girl has had professional training under saddle, was trail ridden in a previous home and has even been to the beach. She's desperately seeking someone who will commit to her so she can form a lasting bond. Continual bouncing around and different ownership has left her a little confused and insecure causing her to be reactive and less than 100% reliable when handling. She's not mean or aggressive, just spooky and a bit flighty. She is not a beginner's horse, she will need an experienced rider with good leadership skills who wants a horse that wants to work as she really seems to like having a job now that she's back in training.

Fabulous

UPDATE: 17yr. old, 16+H, Chestnut, Thoroughbred Gelding. This horse truly is fabulous. He's very quiet and always a perfect gentleman even through some trying and painful treatments. He had nasty cases of scratches and thrush that we're still working on. He's over at the knee but seems to compensate for his conformation flaw fairly well and is actually a lovely mover. We do expect him to be able to be lightly ridden and will be working on that when his feet and pasterns are cleared up. He's really coming around, perking up, gaining weight and getting shiny - complete with dapples. This guy would be a wonderful companion horse, a great friend and perhaps the perfect weekend trail mount. He's currently in foster care and can be seen by appointment.

Golumpki

18 yr. old, 15.1H, Bay, Chubby Standardbred Mare. She's funny, sound, and really enjoying not being trapped in a stall 24/7 anymore. We'd venture a guess that someone broke her to saddle at some point but not sure when she was ridden last. Really flashy and can cover some ground at the trot! She's a little suspicious and will need a strong, patient, experienced rider.

September Jewels

UPDATE: Such a pretty mare. We got her thrush under control and put some front shoes on her. At this point she's walking around sound. She's just been transitioned to 24/7 turnout and we're hoping that she'll be able to maintain. We're hopeful for a full recovery and return to service and will let you know how it goes.

9 yr. old, 15.1H, Dappley Bay, Standardbred Mare. Super cute! She shows signs of being pin-fired at some point in her past. We're hopeful that she will continue to be pasture sound, she is available as a companion only.

Mama

17 yr. old, 15.2H, Bay, Thoroughbred Mare, GORGEOUS! Has a history of EPM but no Neuro. issues and in remission. She's been cleared for light riding and is currently in training and doing very well. Has been well broke in the past and just needs refresher course.

Foster Program

Horses are fostered out into community barns for a variety of reasons ranging from long term rehabilitation to lack of space at here at the NHSPCA. Some of them are ready for adoption and can be seen by appointment. The following horses are currently in faster care receiving much deserved TLC.

Shay

UPDATE: Shay is back up to weight and ready to start training. She's currently in foster care getting some groundwork under her belt. She's so stocky and calm, there's got to be a lot of quarter horse blood in her veins. We'll keep you posted on her progress; there's been talk of ponying her out on the trails with a seasoned horse and broadening the "broodmare's" horizons a little… Very exciting!

12 yr. old, 15.1H, Bay, Thoroughbred/QH Mare, shy but doing much better. Took a couple of tries to get all of her feet done. We have no idea what she's trained to do, if anything, a lovely mare though.

Foster to Adopt Program

In an effort to ensure a good match, we've developed our "Foster to Adopt" Program.
This program affords an adopter thirty days for a trail run and to see if they click.
We will accept additional applications for horses in the
"Foster to Adopt" Program and in the event that they are not adopted by their foster home, we will notify any interested parties. The following horses are being fostered
and may be adopted at the end of their term.

Bernie

Yearling, 13.2H, Liver Chestnut, Thoroughbred Colt. Was stunted so not sure how big he'll get. He knows nothing but is halter broke, calm and extra cute. He's becoming quite the looker! Nice bone, awesome feet, pretty head. Great show prospect!

That Was Easy

7 yr. old, 16+H, Bay Thoroughbred Mare. Very pretty, curious and seems well behaved. She was eventing and doing training level dressage. She's young, hot, fast and bit too much for her previous owner to handle which landed her at the rescue... Someone needs to snap this youngster up, PERFECT H/J SHOW PROSPECT!

Mac

18 yr. old, 16.2H, Bay, Thoroughbred Gelding. Very nice, sweet in the pasture - gets along with everyone. Was ring and trail ridden up until last year. His owner had too many horses and decided to part with him as he doesn't like going out on the trails alone. She reports he's completely content on the trail with company/someone to follow and was ridden by novices. Will just need a refresher course.

Other Farm Animals Available For Adoption

Willis

"Willis" the goat is an 8-10 yr. old wethered male Alpine mix(?). He's grey/ strawberry roan and will be quite handsome with a little bit of weight. He was a stray that we were called in to assist with. Upon capture we realized that he wasn't just spray painted but was also missing half an ear. People can be so cruel. He's now safe, however, he doesn't know it and isn't very social at this point. While he is getting better, he's a long way from trusting. We have been able to vaccinate and de-worm him as well as trim his feet and he's ready to go. He's not mean; just scared and would probably benefit from having a couple of social goat friends to hang around with. He is horned but is generally more interested in trying to get away than picking a fight. He is a flight risk and will require very secure housing along with fencing at least five feet tall and an experienced owner willing to help him adjust.
