“Being a Dog: Following the Dog in to a World of Smell”  By Alexandra Horowitz

Have you ever been curious just why it is often so difficult to get your dog in after a quick potty walk? This book explores the olfactory journey that is living in this world as a dog. Alexandra Horowitz does a fantastic job of exploring and balancing the science of our dogs experience and relating it in a fun witty way to the vastly different human experience.

For The Kids: “Inside of a Dog: What Dogs See, Smell, and Know”-Young Readers Edition By Alexandra Horowitz 

Alexandra Horowitz has adapted her New York Times best-selling book “Inside the Dog” to a young reader friendly version with illustrations by Sean Vidal Edgerton. This is a fantastic exploration of all things doggy for those animal loving kids stuck inside on a snow day, or looking for somewhere to start a spring science fair project on dogs! It is full of fun engaging science from a real dog loving animal behaviorist. 

Training: “Puppy Start Right: Foundation Training for the Companion Dog” By Kenneth M. Martin and Debbie Martin

If you added a new puppy to your family over the holidays or plan to in the New Year, this is the first book you should find. Authored by behavior experts in the veterinary field, with a focus on science based positive reinforcement methods with an emphasis on building a lasting bond between you and your new puppy! 

”Getting Started: Clicker Training for Dogs” by Karen Pryor Our dogs get a lot less exercise in the winter time with the frigid temperatures, this training book and kit offers a fun way to mentally exercise your dogs’ inside. Teach yourself and your dogs some new tricks and techniques to build their attentiveness and tucker them out.
