Foster Parent Program Guidelines
|
NHSPCA
pays for all medical and food needs of the animal(s).
- Foster Parent commits to entire time needed to foster the animal.
Anywhere from 1 week to as long as 3 months.
- Foster Parent will receive a supply kit with necessary equipment
to provide general care feeding and cleaning.
- Litterbox
- Canned food
- Dry foodLitter
- Towels / blankets
- Medications
- Food bowls
- Crate
- Foster Parent must sign a contract and agree length of care
and returning all animals.
- If medical assistance (veterinary appointment) is needed the
Foster Parent will call the Program Coordinator first.
- Foster Parent must go to a veterinarian on the list if medical
assistance is needed. If Foster Parent chooses to use their own
veterinarian that vet must be informed before any problem arises
that the Foster parent is a volunteer for the NHSPCA. Foster Parent
should also notify the Program Coordinator so that she may prepare
the veterinarian for program procedures prior to the first visit.
- Foster Parent will be provided with a list of all participating
foster parents and their phone numbers.
- If Foster Parent can no longer care for the animal(s). she must
call the Program Coordinator in a timely manner to schedule and
return all animals to the NHSPCA.
- Decisions to foster or not will be made by the Program Coordinator.
The animal's behavior and health must be evaluated prior to placement
in a foster home.
- All animals must be kept in a separate room of Foster Parent's
home and NOT socialized with other animals. As the animal heals
and or matures isolation and socialization issues will be re-addressed.
- It is important that babies be socialized and the injured get
exercise. The need for this is determined on a case by case basis
and is determined by the Program Coordinator. Normal everyday
handling of all animals being fostered is a must to benefit their
behavior and the healing or growing process.
- All animals will be fostered separately, unless a litter is
to be fostered together and with (or without) the mother.
- All bites and other injuries to person or animal must be reported
to the Program Coordinator.
