KEY FLORAL AND SEACOAST HOME SHOW TEAM UP FOR THE
COCHECO VALLEY HUMANE SOCIETY AND THE NHSPCA
Dickson & McGonigle Inc., producers of the Seacoast Home, Garden
& Flower Show Society, have teamed up with Key Floral to provide
beautiful bouquets of cut flowers to two non-profit organizations:
the Cocheco Valley Humane Society of Dover and the New Hampshire
Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NHSPCA) in Stratham.
The non-profits will sell the flowers at the Seacoast Show with
all of the proceeds going to their organizations.
Key Floral is a wholesale flower company owned by Lou and Maria
Chaves. Their mission is to "procure and deliver the highest
quality, freshest cut flowers and plants" to their customers.
The Chaves family supplies flowers to many Maine and New Hampshire
businesses, most notably Hannaford supermarkets. This is the second
year that Key Floral has partnered with Dickson & McGonigle
to help non-profits raise much needed funds.
Cynthia (Dickson) O'Connor and Karla (McGonigle) Ficker, co-owners
of Dickson & McGonigle Inc., have purchased the flowers at a
generous discount from Key Floral. "This is our way of showing
appreciation for the good deeds carried out by these organizations,"
states Ficker. "Key Floral gives us an unbelievably great deal
and in turn, we give Cocheco and the NHSPCA the flowers and space
at the Show. The organizations sell the flowers and the money they
raise gives our animal friends shelter and care. Everyone wins."
Cocecho Valley Humane Society opened in 1984 and cares for more
than 3,000 animals each year. As part of the Society's mission to
educate educating the community about humane care and treatment
and advocating animal welfare, educational programs brought to public
schools and community organizations. The Society also uses shelter
dogs as companion therapy dogs in local convalescent and rehabilitation
organizations.
The NHSPCA serves 121 communities of the New Hampshire Seacoast,
southern Maine, and northern Massachusetts. The organization relies
solely on community donations and memberships to support their operations,
programs, and care for the animals that come to them. The organization
also relies heavily on the support of more than 200 volunteers who
give generously of their time and talents. More than 4,000 animals
are taken in by the Society annually, and the NHSPCA also serves
as a transfer station for injured or orphaned wildlife which are
cared for until they are placed into a rehabilitation site.
Each organization maintains a web site where visitors can learn
about their programs and their operations. Visitors to the web sites
can print special coupons for a dollar off the admission price to
the Seacoast Show, courtesy of Dickson & McGonigle. The coupons
can be printed from www.cvhsonline.org and www.nhspca.org.
The Seacoast Home, Garden & Flower Show runs Friday, Saturday
and Sunday, April 1-3, at the UNH Whittemore Center in Durham For
