New Hampshire SPCA Offers Innovative Humane Education Workshop


Stratham NH – The New Hampshire SPCA is offering a workshop in Humane Education programs for humane educators, classroom teachers, home schooling parents, camp directors, adoption counselors, other animal shelter staff or anyone interested in working with children and animals and exploring the bond between them. The workshop will be held at the NHSPCA’s Learning Center for Pets and People on Wednesday, March 21 from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM. The one day workshop costs $75 per person and includes lunch. Participants can expect to learn about the NHSPCA’s innovative Humane Education Programs including StoryTime, KIND Club and Junior Volunteers. The care and benefits of classroom pets, integrating humane education into regular classroom curriculum, promoting animal welfare advocacy among youth and a tour of the NHSPCA’s Learning and Adoption Centers will also be featured. A packet of information including program worksheets and handouts, ideas for student fundraisers and projects, as well as a list of resources will be available to take home.

The workshop will be lead by Paula Parisi, Humane Education Coordinator at the New Hampshire SPCA since 2000. Paula and her Chihuahua assistant Nellie have delivered humane education messages to thousands of children, parents and teachers in New Hampshire, southern Maine and northern Massachusetts through various programs and activities sponsored by the NHSPCA.

The New Hampshire SPCA is a community resource center that provides animal adoption, education, investigation and sheltering services in a professional and compassionate way. The Adoption Center is open from 11 am – 4pm on Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 11 am – 7pm on Tuesday and Thursday, and closed on Wednesday.
