For Immediate Release
Stratham, NH -
On Tuesday, August 9, 2005 three NHSPCA staff aided the police department
in the town of Warner, NH and the NH State Veterinarian's office
with the capture of over 50 animals. The NHSPCA was contacted to
assist in removing and caring for the animals by the State Vets
office and was one of four humane societies in the state that participated
in the rescue involving dogs, cats, rabbits, chickens, ducks, geese,
pigs and goats.
The NHSPCA transported to their facility in Stratham 2 dogs, 1
puppy, cats, 3 rabbits, 2 chickens, one pig with 7 piglets and two
goats. This case resulted from an ongoing investigation. Any charges
against the owners of the animals will be brought forward from the
Warner Police Department or the State Veterinarians office.
The NHSPCA is often called to assist with law enforcement cases
involving animals because there are few resources throughout the
state that can accommodate housing large numbers of animals. Furthermore,
there are only two animal investigators in New Hampshire and the
need for investigative, rescue and transport services concerning
animal cruelty is great.
To report suspected cases of cruelty contact Cruelty Investigator
Steven Sprowl at (603) 772-2921, ext. 111. Callers may remain anonymous.
Questions regarding the Warner case may be directed to the Warner
Chief of Police or the NH State Veterinarian, Dr. Steve Crawford.
