In the most
successful event ever held in support of the animals, attendees
of the 13th Annual Auction for the Animals raised more than
$155,000 for the New Hampshire Society for the Prevention
of Cruelty to Animals (NHSPCA).
More than
225 supporters turned out in their finest attire for the annual
auction held at the Wentworth by the Sea in New
Castle, Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007, marking the most profitable
benefit in the history of the Stratham-based NHSPCA. "On
behalf of the nearly 4,000 animals that we care for each year,
we would like to extend our most sincere gratitude to our
supporters for their steadfast generosity," said Lisa
Dennison, Executive Director. "A large part of the success
of the event was due to the support offered by our generous
sponsors," Dennison said.

Our most sincere thanks to our
major sponsors, Champion Sponsor, Malcolm E. Smith, III, Angel Sponsor,
Alissa and Dick Bournival of the Bournival Group, Pack Leader Sponsors,
Oneta and Jon Bobbett, Karl E. Hahn of The Hahn Group -Merrill Lynch
Global Private Client, and Northeast Auto Auctions.
Additional sponsors included
Furball Friends, Allen Wayside Furniture, Carey & Giampa, LLC,
Enterprise Auto Group, Mr. & Mrs. Richard D. Bournival, Sr.,
Portsmouth Regional Hospital, Portsmouth Blind and Shade Co., Schering-Plough
HomeAgain, LLC, Southwick Construction, Inc., The Maureen Carey
Group, Realtors; Adoption Advocates, Adesa Auto Auction, Davies
Tire Company, G&L Auto Interiors, Robbins Auto Parts; Pet Pals,
Citizens Bank, NH Mailing Services, Invisible Fence of Southern
ME, North Hill Nursery, Kimball Auto Enterprises, Inc., Penn Veterinary
Supply, Inc., Regal Limousine, Midwest Veterinary, Sanel Auto Parts,
Co., and In-Kind sponsors, Avalon Promotions, Infinite Imaging,
Seacoast Media Group and Squamscott Press.
The funds raised will be directed,
in part, to the purchase a mobile rescue and adoption vehicle which
will be designed for multi-purpose use. "The vehicle we have
selected will provide climate controlled, enclosed transportation
for rescued animals as well as allowing us to increase our number
of offsite adoptions and humane education opportunities," said
Lisa Dennison. "It will truly allow us to be more present in
the community and will help place more animals into loving new homes."
The event featured a silent auction containing over 135 items, raffles
and a live auction. Each item in the auction was donated to the
NHSPCA and a list of donors may be found on the NHSPCA's web site.
During the live auction, nearly $60,000 was raised to purchase the
rescue vehicle. NHSPCA Board President Joanne Lamprey challenged
those in attendance by offering to match up to $25,000 which was
immediately met with a pledge from Thomas Haas, of Great Bay Aviation
also for $25,000.
The auctioneer for the evening
was Steve Trimm, who graciously donated his services. Entertainment
was provided to the guests by renowned Comedian Cary Long who also
served as MC for the evening. One of the highlights of the live
auction was a visit from Randy Price of Channel 7 NEWS in Boston,
who came to the podium to talk about the item he had donated, a
private tour of the Channel 7 Newsroom and followed by dinner with
Randy himself. Also, in attendance was radio and TV personality
Billy Costa of KISS108 and NECN's TV Diner.
"Our thanks go out to the
volunteers, donors and sponsors that made this year's auction such
a tremendous success," said Sheila Ryan, Director of Development
and Marketing. "We couldn't have done have done it without
the help of so many people.
