Court Decides Cruelty Case - Owner Convicted

On Friday, February 29, 2008, Wanda Wallace of Epping was convicted of several counts of animal cruelty. The conviction comes 9 months after the New Hampshire SPCA assisted Epping Police in the rescue of 19 Italian Greyhounds found in deplorable conditions in a steamy attic. When rescued, the dogs had been significantly underweight and required medical attention. Ms. Wallace was ordered to pay restitution for the expense incurred by the New Hampshire SPCA for the medical care provided and the months of protective custody.

The dogs had been held in protective custody at the NHSPCA's Adoption Center in Stratham since their rescue on June 18, 2007. They were released from protective custody on October 23, 2007 and all but one have been adopted. Now that the case is resolved, she too will finally have the chance at a new loving home. Ms. Wallace has the option of appealing the case.

For information concerning the case, contact Steve Sprowl, Manager of Field Services at 603-772-2921, x111.

The SOS Fund at the NHSPCA helps us to care for animals that have been the victims of cruelty and neglect. Donations may be made to the SOS Fund via the web site at www.nhspca.org, by phone at (603) 772-2921 or by mail to SOS Fund, PO Box 196, Stratham NH 03885.
