The New Hampshire SPCA is proud to announce that Chaplin,
a former stray cat who is currently awaiting adoption, won Best Household Pet at the Cat Fanciers Federation National Show on Saturday.

Chaplin, a 2yr old medium haired Tuxedo cat, “pounced” on the competition, including many purebred kitties. A mere 5 days before the national show, Chaplin was a no-named stray referred to simply as “the cat” by the people who found him. When he came to NHSPCA, we saw him as a potential champion and entered him in the competition. Sporting desirable double paws, dashing good looks, needing only a fast-track neutering and nail trim; Chaplin was ready to put the quaffed purebred Persians, Himalayans, and Scottish Folds
to shame.

Chaplin went under 4 judges placing a total of 1 Best Household Pet, two seconds, and 1 third. “The competition was fierce” said Jo-Ann Corbin, a volunteer for the NHSPCA who promoted him throughout the competition on Saturday. “We are all thrilled by his success.”

“The important lesson to learn through Chaplin’s Championship is that really wonderful cats, dogs and other pets are available locally and waiting at the NHSPCA”, said Jen Corbin, Director of Animal Services. “Chaplin and all his feline friends would love to have you come by, visit and maybe even take them home.”

So far, Chaplin seems unfazed by his new found celebrity and simply waiting to be the champion in the hearts of a new family.

The New Hampshire SPCA is a community resource center that provides animal adoption, education, investigation and sheltering services in a professional and compassionate way. The Adoption Center is open from 11 am – 4pm on Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 11 am – 7pm on Tuesday and Thursday, and closed on Wednesday.
