For Immediate Release

Stratham, NH -
It's cat season and the shelter is filled with cats and kittens, making it an ideal time to adopt. To encourage adoption, the New Hampshire SPCA joins The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and Fresh Step® litter to proclaim June as Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat Month. Celebrate today by visiting the cats at the NHSPCA in Stratham, Pet Quarters at the Crossings at Fox Run in Newington, and at Petfinder.com, the ASPCA's on-line adoption partner.

Each week during the month of June the NHSPCA will focus on a special group of cats. Week one features Companion Cats, highlighting pairs of cats that stay together; week two features Senior Pets & People, with a spot light on our special senior cats; week three is "Fat Cat Thursday", featuring overweight cats and week four will be the "Black Cat Blitz". All month long every cat adoption will feature special added bonuses such as discounted adoption fees, 10% off purchases at Pet Quarters and a free cat toy bag with every adoption. Each week the Adoption Center staff will announce the VIP Cat of the Week. The lucky new owner of the VIP cat will receive a free cat care kit valued at $40.00.

Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat Month is a great time to learn about cats. NHSPCA staff and volunteers want community members to learn about the benefits of companion pets to older people, the health issues concerning overweight pets, the importance of having a collar and an ID tag on your pet and the need to spay/neuter your cat(s). For more information about pets currently available at the NHSPCA or about the special promotions for Adopt-a-Cat month please call the Adoption Center at (603) 772-2921 or visit them on line at www.nhspca.org.

The New Hampshire SPCA is a community resource center which provides animal adoption, education, investigation and sheltering services in a professional and compassionate way. The Adoption Center is open from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and closed on Wednesdays. For more information about making a donation to the New Hampshire SPCA please call (603) 772-2921 ext. 106 or visit www.nhspca.org.
