Stratham, NH -
Pet Fest and Paws Walk

The New Hampshire SPCA held its signature fund raising event last Sunday, September 19, 2004 at Redhook Ale Brewery in Portsmouth, NH. This year's Pet Fest and Paws Walk was the most successful ever raising more than $63,000 for the homeless animals at the shelter in Stratham.

The NHSPCA does not receive any state or federal funding and relies solely on community support to care for the over 4,000 animals they see each year. That's why for the past four years Parker & Plummer, Inc. has put together a winning team for this event. Led by co-captains Jennifer M. H. Parker and Maria McCabe, the Parker & Plummer team raised $10,456 for the animals, taking home the coveted Golden Paws Award.

The Golden Paws Award for the 16 & Under category was won by Portsmouth Pals & Gals, led by captain Vincent Yosua, raising $1,502.50 for the animals. Alpha Awards were given to the individual participants that raised the most money for the animals. This year's winners were Rachel Brown (adult), who raised $3,000 and Carolyn Hooper (youth category) who raised $700.

This year's event was not only a success in terms of fundraising for the animals, it was also expanded to include many activities for the whole family, in addition to a concert performed by Portsmouth's own Jumbo Circus Peanuts. Sunday's festivities, hosted by Mark Ericson and Danielle Carrier from WOKQ, saw an estimated 2,000 people in attendance, many with their four-footed friends.

The NHSPCA wishes to thank its generous sponsors including Redhook Ale Brewery, Seacoast Newspapers, WOKQ, Lamprey Brothers, Squamscott Press, Waste Management, Piscataqua Savings Bank, Ocean National, UBS, Exeter Hospital, Bottomline Technologies, State Line Pet Supply, Sign-A-Rama, Pet Quarters, Exeter Fine Crafts, 2-Way Communications Service, Inc., Four Preppy Paws, Mainely Paws, and Dog's Life Designs.

The New Hampshire SPCA is a community resource center that provides animal adoption, education, investigation and sheltering services in a professional and compassionate way. The Adoption Center is open from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and closed on Wednesdays.
