11

Create a drawing, poem, song, true story about your pet or fictional story about a pet and responsible pet care which could be published in the NHSPCA Newsletter.

12

Write about animals and the importance of taking proper care of them. Make up a song or commercial and perform it for the NHSPCA staff. Call Paula at 772-2921, ext. 113 for an appointment.

13

Watch the video "Shiloh" and have a discussion with your friends or family about wild animals being trapped for fur, hunting, and hunting dogs, a dog owner's rights, proper dog shelters, the daily care and feeding of dogs socialization and ideas about pet ownership. Write a letter to the editor in your local newspaper about kindness to animals.

14

Decorate T-Shirts with animal pictures and animal care messages. Wear this T-Shirt and/or give it as a gift to other students. Research proper pet care messages and ask NHSPCA education staff for assistance.

15

Make a mural with possible themes of:
  • A modern garden with people and animals living in harmony.
  • A companion animal being treated well by their owner.
  • Farm animals treated on a large tract of land.

16

Ask your school or public librarian for help in creating a display about animal care concerns. Ask about display boards that will help attract attention. Use the display boards and lay books out or stand them up about the issue you would like people to learn about. Put leaflets from the NHSPCA with the exhibit. Use magazines, videos, films and posters from the library.

17

Students who are ages 13-15 years old and have working papers can work with an adult in small groups taking care of the cats and small animals. Students are supervised by a trained adult at all times. There is almost always a waiting list for this program. Contact Paula at 772-2921, ext. 113 if you are interested in putting your name of the waiting list.

18

Students have made crafts, baked goodies and held car washes to raise money for cat and dog food, medical supplies, animal toys, etc. Contact Paula at 772-2921 for craft and other moneymaking ideas. The NHSPCA relies solely on donations to run our agency. After conducting a fund-raiser, students can arrange a tour of the shelter and designate what they would like their funds to go towards.

19

Make safe cat and dog toys. Call the NHSPCA for idea on how to make special toys for your pets.

20

Write letter to political representative (local, state and federal) and local newspapers on issues that concern you about how animals are being treated.
