Therapy Dog Training

Animal Assisted Therapy Dog Training for you and your dog

$150 per dog/handler team for entire workshop
$45 for test only (Sunday June 8th 1:00-4:00) for those who want to recertify

Learn to partner with your dog in an around the health care environment and specialized equipment. You will learn how to handle your individual dog in challenging situations. Testing and certification by Therapy Dogs International standards will commence on the second day, early afternoon.

Previous Canine Good Citizenship Certification recommended.

Well behaved, prepared dogs are welcome. Please bring leash, bed and clean up materials for your dog.

Dealing With Dangerous Dogs:
Learn how to handle, transport and safely work with dangerous dogs or dogs that exhibit the potential for dangerous behavior. Learn training methods for dogs that are simply fearful and learn the difference between aggression based on intent to do harm and aggression based on fear.

Behind the Adoption Desk:
Adoption Counselors need to know more than the average dog owner. Knowing dogs and how to interpret their behavior and the importance of not humanizing their "feelings" is the key to better adoptions. Find out about body language and calming signals dogs use to talk to each other. Learn about bite prevention and understand why the simple things make all the difference.

Behavior Evaluations
Once you have evaluated a dog what does it mean? Identifying stressors, stress mapping your kennel and the importance of evaluation of dogs and puppies are all covered in this workshop. Learn how to become a better observer of behavior and how you can reshape problem behaviors with the right environment. The desired outcome is better matches, better adoptions and fewer returns! This seminar includes an overview of available testing programs strengths and weaknesses.
