DESCRIPTION:Come spread joy to homeless animals and shine a light on the lifesaving efforts of the NHSPCA by joining our favorite winter event\, Deck the Howls! \nChildren ages 6-12 are invited to join us on Wednesday December 17 and Thursday  December 18\, 2025\, from 5:00-7:00 pm for a special opportunity to take a candlelight tour\, read a bedtime story to one of our rescues\, make holiday crafts\, decorate the shelter\, and enjoy some yummy treats.  \nWear some howliday PJs (or any comfy jammies!) and closed-toe shoes and bring your favorite story to share with the animals. Don’t have a favorite? Don’t worry\, we’ll have books you can borrow!  \nCOST: $35 per child  \nDue to the size of our indoor spaces\, we recommend parents either drop their children off or limit adult visitors to one per family. We want to make sure the kids and staff have plenty of room to comfortably move around and that our animals don’t get overwhelmed! Please note\, if you do choose to stay\, you may be asked to wait in the lobby for portions of the event.   \nBooking and Refund Policy  \nSpaces for this event fill up quickly\, so register early! Given the popularity and low cost of this event\, no refunds will be given for cancellations. In the case that the event must be cancelled due to inclement weather\, we will offer a credit to use toward future programming.

SUMMARY:April Farm Squad Camp 2024
DESCRIPTION:The NHSPCA Humane Education department is excited to offer Farm Squad Camp 2024 for children ages 8-12 from April 22nd – 25th in 2 sessions. \nThis special two day experience will be a fun and educational mix of hands on animal time\, farm work and crafts. Campers will participate in daily farm chores and be trained how to use shovels\, rakes and wheelbarrows. Children will work in the stables mucking stalls and feeding animals. They will learn about equine health\, proper grooming\, nutrition and first aid. In the classroom\, campers will explore natural fibers from sheep and alpaca\, card raw wool and try their hand at needle felting. Our Farm Squad campers will also plant seeds for our Children’s Garden\, become familiarized with sustainable farming practices\, raising poultry and even bake yummy homemade bread. \nPlease note\, farm work is often messy and takes a lot of energy! Children will need to be able to work independently\, with calm bodies and voices\, and have an awareness of their surroundings. Please consider whether your child would enjoy these types of tasks\, or be able to comply with these needs before registering.  \nSession 1: Monday\, April 22 and Tuesday\, April 23 – 9:00am-3:00pm \nSession 2: Wednesday\, April 24 and Thursday\, April 25 – 9:00am-3:00pm \nImportant information: \nAt the NHSPCA\, we provide care for animals with a wide variety of personalities\, behavioral and medical needs. Although campers will see animals during their program\, we cannot promise a certain amount of direct animal contact. \nWe welcome campers of all backgrounds and ability levels. We’d like to remind families that campers will be visiting a working animal shelter and are expected to follow directions and have calm bodies and quiet voices when around animals. Any campers engaging in unsafe or disruptive behaviors toward peers\, staff\, or the animals in our care may be dismissed from camp with no refund provided.  \nIn addition to our required closed toe footwear\, we highly recommend your child bring a pair of boots to wear while engaging in farm activities throughout the week.

It increases both reading proficiency and confidence in children. It also socializes the animals and helps them get adopted. Reading with animals is a win win for everyone!\nReading with Animals is open to everyone 5 years and older. \nEvery Monday between 4 pm and 6 pm. Sessions are 20 minutes long.  \nPLEASE NOTE: This event takes place after regular hours and the building will be locked. Please come to the Adoption Center door. You will be greeted by staff at your assigned time. \nCost: $5 per session (Select the date and the time you would like below) \nRefund/cancellation policy: It is not the NHSPCA’s policy to give refunds for cancellations. For events postponed due to illness or inclement weather\, we will make all attempts to reschedule or provide a credit to use toward future programming.   \nWaiver: I recognize that in conjunction with my child’s attendance at the New Hampshire Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NHSPCA)\, my child will be in contact with and may be allowed to hold and pet animals. DESCRIPTION:Reading with Animals is open to everyone 5 years and older. \nEvery Monday between 4 pm and 6 pm. Sessions are 20 minutes long.  \nPLEASE NOTE: This event takes place after regular hours and the building will be locked. Please wait at the middle door marked “Learning Center”. You will be greeted by staff at your assigned time. \nCost: $10 per session (Select the date and the time you would like below) \nRefund/cancellation policy: It is not the NHSPCA’s policy to give refunds for cancellations. For events postponed due to illness or inclement weather\, we will make all attempts to reschedule or provide a credit to use toward future programming.   \nWaiver: I recognize that in conjunction with my child’s attendance at the New Hampshire Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NHSPCA)\, my child will be in contact with and may be allowed to hold and pet animals. I understand that despite all precautions taken\, there is a chance that my child may contract a disease or illness by handling the animals. I further understand that there is a chance that my child may sustain a scratch or bite while handling animals. I understand that the above is illustrative of the types of risks involved in participating in programs at the NHSPCA\, but is in no way a complete list of possible risks. By checking the YES box when registering\, I do hereby absolutely and unconditionally release and discharge the NHSPCA\, including its employees\, successors\, assigns\, directors\, officers\, and agents from and against any and all claims\, obligations\, and liabilities of any nature relating to or arising out of my child’s participation with this NHSPCA program.  I certify that I am the registered child’s legal parent or legal guardian.

SUMMARY:Reading with the Animals - Oct 2023
DESCRIPTION:Children in grades 1-8 who are reading at any level are invited to join us at the NHSPCA to read to animals from our adoption center or small animals from our Humane Education classroom. This program helps children improve their reading skills in a comfortable and relaxed environment while also helping the animals by providing socialization and human interaction. Reading sessions last 25 minutes (timeslots are listed as 30 minutes to allow time for our readers to exit before the next reader comes in) and take place Mondays each month between 4 pm and 6 pm.  Please note\, we want our readers and the animals to have quiet and calm surroundings\, so reading sessions are for one child at a time! If you have siblings or other pairs of children who would like to attend at the same time\, please email us at education@nhspca.org to see if we have the space and staff to host you! \nCost: $10 per session \nRefund/cancellation policy: It is not the NHSPCA’s policy to give refunds for cancellations.
