Thoroughbred  | Female  | 13

Shay is a 13 year old TB mare who was used primarily as a brood mare for the majority of her life then ended up at auction with a colt by her side. Her baby has been adopted and now it's Shay turn. She deserves to find that soft quiet spot to call home. She stands approximately 15.2 hands tall. Shay is a gentle soul that needs a soft hand. She can be nervous of new people. She is sound with no known medical issues. Shay has allegedly been ridden in the past and briefly here with us. It appears Shay has had some trauma under saddle as she is not comfortable or happy being ridden at this time. We think it would be best for Shay to find a home where she can build more trust with her human. Shay thrives on consistency and a quiet environment. With lots of love, patience and the right person, we believe Shay may be able to be under saddle again one day. She can be separated from the herd without issue. Shay can be turned out with mares or geldings and has even lived with donkeys. Shay needs a home with consistency. She doesn't love the shelter life with animals coming and going all the time. She thrives with a daily routine and having the same friends. She does best when separated for meals. She is good for the farrier but a little nervous with the vet. She is UTD on vaccines, dental and farrier care. She loads and trailers well. If you are interested in meeting Shay email mmurch@nhspca.org.
