Bring or borrow a book and read to shelter animals. Research has shown that reading to animals has a positive impact on both the animals and the people who interact with them. It increases both reading proficiency and confidence in children. It also socializes the animals and helps them get adopted. Reading with animals is a win win for everyone!

Reading with Animals is open to everyone 5+ years old.

When: Every Wednesday* between 4 pm and 6 pm. Sessions are 20 minutes long
*Not held during the summer from end of June – August

This program helps children improve their reading skills in a comfortable and relaxed environment while also helping the animals by providing socialization and human interaction. Please note, we want our readers and the animals to have quiet and calm surroundings, so reading sessions are for one child at a time! If you have siblings or other pairs of children who would like to attend at the same time, please email us at education@nhspca.org to see if we have the space and staff to host you!

Cost: $10 per session

Refund/cancellation policy: It is not the NHSPCA’s policy to give refunds for cancellations. For events postponed due to illness or inclement weather, we will make all attempts to reschedule or provide a credit to use toward future programming.
