The devastating wildfires in California continue to burn while winds have picked up once again. We are heartbroken for all the people and animals caught in this unprecedented catastrophe. Images of domestic and wild animals attempting to escape the fires are particularly hard for those of us who have a deep soul connection with animals.
We know our animal loving community is eager to help the animals of LA county, but may be unfamiliar with the agencies and options for how best to direct your assistance.
San Diego Humane Society, a highly respected leader in our industry, recently sent out suggestions of how best we can all help. The agencies below are a few that are assisting and would be able to do more with your help.
The greatest need currently is for monetary donations. Please consider making a gift to any of the organizations listed below. Each of them is helping animals directly impacted by the fires. (Please note that donations of food, blankets and other supplies have reached capacity at this time.)
- Pasadena Humane has taken in hundreds of animals injured or displaced by the fires. Your gift at give.pasadenahumane.org/fire will help Pasadena Humane respond quickly as animals come in, providing them with the lifesaving care they need.
- Los Angeles County Animal Foundation (ACF) and Los Angeles County Department of Care & Control (DACC) are dedicated to providing support for animal sheltering and evacuation efforts. Give at lacountyanimals.org.
- LA Animal Services is also caring for displaced animals. Give at laanimalservices.com.
- spcaLA is housing pets of evacuees. Give at spcala.com.
We hope that you will find this information helpful as you determine how you might wish to help during this incredibly difficult time.
Please continue to keep all of those effected in your thoughts.
