All Igor is looking for is a quiet home where he can finally exhale.

This big guy has been with us since December, which is a long time for any dog… let alone one who 1. has a really hard time in the presence of other dogs and 2. isn’t feeling his best.

Three-year-old Igor is in a bit of a tricky situation: He was recently diagnosed with bilateral luxating patellas—a fancy way of saying his kneecaps move out of their normal position and cause discomfort. Our team is fully committed to helping Igor feel his best and will provide the two surgeries, but before he can have surgery, he needs to lose weight.

Honestly, the kennel is doing this dog no favors. Being barrier reactive and surrounded by dogs causes Igor to spiral, and all potential adopters see when they visit is a severely overwhelmed dog on the other side of the glass.

Within the last couple weeks, you’ve helped us find homes for Ash, Henry and Cosmo—dogs who were in similar boats as Igor. We’re really hoping you can show up for this big guy, too.

Though he’d prefer a home without other dogs, when it comes to people, Igor is a big time loverboy. He’s basically an Industrial Strength Velcro Dog who is always looking for a way to climb into your lap and be snuggled like the big baby he is. He simply has no idea just how big he is. In true bully fashion, he’s known to throw his body around when he gets excited and would do best in a home without young children.

When we dream of Igor’s ideal home, it feels like a slow Sunday morning. The happiest, most comfortable version of this guy thrives when things feel calm. He’s not the kind of dog who always wants to be out and about. He’s the kind of dog who’s most at peace during a riveting game of tug, a long snooze in the sunspot or while monitoring the wild critters in the backyard from the comfort of the couch.

Unsurprisingly, we’ve learned that walks in the woods are very grounding for Igor and a great way for him to put his natural instincts (i.e. his sniffer!) to work. As a dog who values his personal space around other canines, he thrives in environments where his handler can confidently support and advocate for that boundary.

Igor is ready for a life where the pace is slow and the love is endless. Is he exactly what you need? We’d love to talk with you. Our Adoption Center is open from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. every day except Wednesdays (closed) and we’re located at 104 Portsmouth Avenue in Stratham, NH. Igor would love to see you soon.
