Petunia is a young tortoiseshell with all the personality to match. She may take a little time to find her footing in a new home - give her space to settle in, and she'll reward you with her full tortitude. Patient adopters will find a spirited, affectionate companion worth every moment of the wait. I kept Petunia in one room, with a cat tree where she would watch the neighborhood. I had a radio for some background music tuned into classical music. Personality: Petunia is shy at first as she catches her breath in a new environment. Once she settles in and feels safe, the classic tortie attitude comes out in full force. She's curious, spirited, and will let you know exactly what she thinks. Trust takes time - and is absolutely worth earning. Eating: Petunia is a dedicated member of the clean plate club! She enjoys both wet and dry food with no complaints. Wet Food - Fancy Feast - all flavors (2 cans a day) Dry Food - Purina Pro Plan, all ages (full bowl, empty in the morning) Treats - Delectables Chicken Flavor is a fan favorite! Water - drinks from bowl, I cleaned twice a day. Litter Box: Perfect manners XLarge size, Arm and Hammer unscented clumping Scooped twice a day Safe Space Needs: Petunia loves having a retreat where she can decompress and observe from a distance. First couple days she was on top of the bureaus when I came in the room, but then moved to the cat tree where she could see the door open as well as the neighborhood activity. As she caught her breath, she would watch what I was doing versus just running under a chair or to the side of bed.(She thought by tucking herself under the side of the comforter I couldn't see her). I would sit on the floor by the open door and chat with her/read aloud. A high perch (cat tree, shelf, or top of furniture) A cozy box or hiding spot lined with soft blankets Having her own safe place will help her gain confidence and warm up faster. Play: I could hear Petunia running around the foster room, seemed to like a large fuzzy yarn ball Feather wands - guaranteed to get her attention - when I left the feather wand toys and closed the door, she would play with them by herself. Catnip toys - I gave her a catnip pillow (natural catnip) and she embraced it. Petunia just needs time to catch her breath and build trust. A quiet introduction, a cozy hideaway, and consistent gentle interaction will bring out her wonderful personality. She's absolutely worth the patience.
