So… where are all our black cat lovers at?!
In July, our friends at BISSELL Pet Foundation reached out to us to see if we could help one of their rescue partners. Hub City Humane in Mississippi had recently taken in a rescue that consisted of dozens of black cats. These cats were falling victim to Black Cat Syndrome — a phenomenon of black cats being severely overlooked by adopters in favor of cats with lighter coats. Would we be able to take a cat or two?
One or two? Um… how about 30?
Tomorrow morning, our 30 black cats will strut their stuff onto the tarmac in Louisiana — not literally, they will be secure in carries for safety reasons of course, but just imagine how cool that would look. When they touch down a few hours later, they’ll be right here in New Hampshire!
18 of these cats are coming from Hub City Humane, and the remaining 12 are from Louisiana SPCA, Companion Animal Alliance, Baldwin Humane Society and West Feliciana Animal Humane Society… Here are just a few of the cuties you can expect to see in our Cat Pavilion in the coming weeks!
These cats — all between 2 months and 5 years old — are all black cats! There may or may not be two tuxedo cats who masqueraded as black cats so they could also come home to New England… but we’re not in the business to snitch.
Some of these cats will likely be cleared for adoption as early as next Thursday, August 29. You know what they say… black cats give everyone the opportunity to share a home with a mini-panther! If you’re interested in adopting, please keep an eye on our Adoptable Cats page next week, as felines will be added as they are made available.
Can’t adopt but still want to help? Please consider ordering an item or two from our Chewy Wish List to help prepare for the influx of bellies we will need to keep full. Thank you so much for your help!
Thank you to Cathy Bissell and BISSELL Pet Foundation for making this placement and transport possible! BISSELL Pet Foundation’s mission is to help reduce the number of animals in shelters through pet adoption, spay/neuter programs, vaccinations, microchipping and crisis and disaster response. We are grateful to partner with them on this lifesaving transport!
