It’s hard to imagine that not too long ago, this adorable pup with a personality as endearing as her forehead wrinkles was found emaciated and chained up in a backyard in South Florida. There’s no doubt the days were long and life was hard… but somehow, this girl never lost faith.

And good thing she didn’t.

Thankfully, Chili was discovered and rescued by kind humans who knew she deserved better. Imagine the literal weight off her shoulders as they unclasped the large chain clasp from her collar. She was taken to our friends at Miami-Dade County Animal Services, where they nursed her back to health and prepared her for the trip of a lifetime. On February 17, she boarded a flight with Wings of Rescue in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and landed in Bedford, MA, where our team was waiting on the tarmac to drive her and 12 other dogs back to Stratham.

With a few days, Chili was cleared for adoption and scooped right up by an incredible family. Along with her new lease on life, she was given a new name (she was formerly known as Bonnie) and two little girls of her own to love.

The truth is, we are nothing without the support of our community. We can care for animals like Chili — provide them with a comfortable bed, nutritious meals, veterinary care, and endless amounts of love — and find them good homes, but without you and your help, we wouldn’t even be able to dream of doing any of it.

Without you, we wouldn’t be able to transport animals from overcrowded and underfunded shelters around the nation – animals that are facing euthanasia simply because space and resources are scarce — and place them in loving homes here in New England.

You are the reason we were able to remove Chili from a hard situation in Florida. You are the reason that today, she woke up in a warm, stable home… that she’s learning backyards are meant for play, not restraint… that she finally gets to learn what unconditional love feels like.

You are the reason Chili’s dream of a second chance became a reality. If you’d like to help us make more second chances possible, please consider donating today. Thank you so much for your support.
