The New Hampshire SPCA recently held a full day of specialized hands-on training workshop for first responders to be able to help large animals in distress. Patriot Equine Technical Rescue trained first responders and NHSPCA equine staff how to rescue animals safely during emergencies. This workshop welcomed first responders from 12 agencies around New England.

Patriot Equine Technical Rescue is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit which provides and utilizes specialized training and equipment to assist veterinarians and public safety officials with the technical rescue of horses in distress due to entrapment, illness, or injury.  Horses are fragile and subject to potentially deadly medical complications from prolonged recumbency or entrapments.  The equipment and training can mean all the difference in keeping rescuers safe and in providing the horse (or other large animal) with every opportunity for a successful outcome. Because this training equipment is purpose designed, it can accomplish the job much faster and safer than other lay methods.

Our thanks to Kate from Patriot Equine Technical Rescue for providing the equipment and sharing her knowldege during this important workshop.
