We can’t tell you for sure what this handsome boy has been through in his life so far… but it seems as though it’s been a lot. At five years old, Jonas is at the age where we hope to see dogs comfortable in their own skin. Unfortunately, this guy seems to be lugging around a very heavy bag of worry wherever he goes.

We see his worry — it’s kinda hard not to, tbh — but we also see his potential… and his potential is ten times bigger.

Although Jonas is incredibly shut down and usually found hiding in the shadows, our team has learned that he has a heart worth its weight in gold. There truly is an overwhelming amount of love for him here at the NHSPCA, and for good reason.

But, you know what they say… Sometimes all you need just one person — one person who loves you unconditionally and shows you what safety looks and feels like.

This is exactly what Jonas needs.

So, can you help us find his person? We’re looking for someone who will love the goofy side of Jonas that we’ve seen in small glimmers… but more importantly, someone who will love the sensitive side of him, as that’s the side that really needs to be loved and nurtured. His ideal family will be kind, gentle and not afraid to advocate and protect him… and his ideal home will be calm and quiet, perhaps with another dog (he’s dog selective) but without cats. He may or may not like chasing them juuuust a little too much!

We know that in return, Jonas will be an impossible-to-replace kind of friend. He so desperately wants someone to have a soul-to-soul connection with and is a heart dog just waiting to be discovered. If you’ve ever earned the trust and love of a shy dog, you know that it’s a bond that simply cannot be broken.
