It’s been a while since we last featured Dude, and he’s been in our care for quite some time now (since September 2024). In that time, he’s come a long way, and we’re so proud of the progress he’s made, both in weight loss and behavior.
Four-year-old Dude originally arrived in pretty rough shape. His hooves and tusks were so overgrown that walking was a real challenge. On top of that, he was severely overweight, which made moving even harder and put a lot of strain on his joints. He was also wary of people and rarely left the safety of his blanket fort in the shed.
Nearly nine months later, Dude is hardly recognizable from the pig he once was! He’s lost 50 pounds, has much more energy, and is embracing what we like to call his Hot Pig Summer. He’s also become much more social, both with people and other animals, and now regularly waddles over to greet visitors, especially if they’re carrying his favorite treat: a fresh fruit salad.
He may be more active, but don’t get us wrong, Dude still loves his downtime. One of his favorite pastimes now that the weather’s warmer is flopping down in a cozy pile of hay to soak up the sunshine and work on his tan.
Dude’s journey to becoming the best version of himself is nothing short of inspiring, but his story isn’t over yet. Stop by and say hello; he’ll be the one snoozing in the sun, dreaming of the day his forever family finally finds him.
