We’ve been keeping a little secret and cannot go another minute without telling you! On Tuesday afternoon, a lovely couple traveled an hour and a half one way in hopes of finding their new best friend here at the New Hampshire SPCA. Patiently waiting for them was Zoe, a 10-year-old, sweet-as-pie dog who has been busy stealing the hearts of our social media followers. If it were based on personality alone, Zoe would have been adopted within minutes of becoming available for adoption… but she was looking for a home without other dogs or cats, which significantly limited her pool of potential adopters.

She was here for 33 days, which we’re sure felt like very, very long time. As each day passed, it got a bit harder for us to see Zoe patiently waiting at the door, desperate to catch someone’s eye. But, as we know, sometimes it just takes a little bit of extra time for the right things to fall together.

That’s exactly what happened for our good friend, Zoe.

Daryl and Mike came into our Dog Pavilion and went right for Zoe—the senior dog they made the long drive to meet. To say their connection was instantaneous wouldn’t even do it justice. It was love at first sight. Daryl sat down on the floor and Zoe snuggled in close, resting her head in Daryl’s lap and well… the rest, as they say, is history.

Zoe napped the entire drive home and scoped out her new home with a wagging tail and grateful heart. They spent their first afternoon together snuggled up on the couch watching Lassie, which Mike made sure to put on the TV for his girl. At nighttime, they said goodnight to Zoe and went to bed. It didn’t take long, though, for their sweet girl to pop over and check in on how they were doing… and then she promptly invited herself up onto the bed to sleep right between her new people. She fell asleep with her head between theirs and was thrilled to be able to sleep in the following morning—staying nestled in bed even after Daryl and Mike had gotten up for the day.

“She fits our lifestyle so well,” Daryl wrote. “Zoe is beyond wonderful. I couldn’t be happier – second only to our wedding day nine years ago! A million thanks to all of you.”
